Tramp time

Post by trip on February 6th 2010, 8:22 am

Finally got a few hours alone in the garage yesterday with the Tramp (Triumph). Got the wrist pin bushings reamed and the pins fittted. Fitted the rings to the cylinders. If all goes well I will start putting the top end back togather today. One small problem. The ring clearence in the cylinder is supposed to be .010-.014 and I have two at .015. I really want to get this thing back togather and running.

Prolly be ok, just be sure to clock the rings 180* from each other.

One thousandth is probably no big deal. I'm putting cast iron rings in and they will probably expand a little more than steel rings when they get hot. The cast iron rings are softer and will wear more than steel or chrome rings but will cause less wear to the cylinders. I'm not a mechanic either, just learning as I go.
