Missouri River Info
Been to busy to post. Spending copious amounts of time at The Dunes. If your interested in the flooding here is a good site to visit. http://sd.gov/
This should answer any questions, I'll post more later. Trash, get your hip waders on.
Better yet maybe trade that silver 'X' in for a motor boat.

Re: Missouri River Info
I should add that the aerial photos of the dunes are a couple of days old, June 1st. Water is up prolly 2.5' since then and will really start to rise after saturday. Corp is releasing 105,000 cubic ft second and increasing 10,000 a day to the maximum of 150,000 cfs and am told will hold at that rate till October. If the levee doesn't hold, most of the Dunes will go under.

Re: Missouri River Info
Yes Bill, governor dedicated the maintenance forces to assist the highway patrol with traffic control until the national guard showed up.
Organized chaos prolly best describes the situation. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of last week was unbelievable for trucks going in and people trying to move out.
They (the powers that be) haven't said, but I've heard that they are concerned about the Oahe dam, it has moved about 19" / 20"
That would explain why all of a sudden they need to dump all this water. I realize that with parts of Montana getting a years worth of rain in 5 or so days and them having 600% of an annual snow amount, that is just starting to melt, are reasons enough. But when they know this and have a plan and all of a sudden maximum water flow is pushed up 3 to 4 weeks, something is going on.

Re: Missouri River Info
Be safe out there Jeff. Moving dams are definitely on the BAD list. Most of the rivers here are just below flood stage and the water is very cold and fast. There have been two people killed in the last two weeks because they got too close and fell in. We have not hit the peak runoff yet and will not for at least a month.
