my 500 mile ride adventure

Post by shuterbg on June 12th 2011, 9:07 pm

So on the Washington VTX board there is a couple that owns a pizza place on the other side of the mountains in a small town in the middle of no where. Each year we get a group together and go on a ride over to their place for pizza in which we call the Pizza run. So yesterday was the annual pizza run. for us its about 500 miles round trip. so the group usually has a couple meet up spots. Jessica came along with me and we were going to meet up at the main meet up point. So before I left I was going to double check what exit the meet up spot was but I was so tired from not sleeping well I forgot. The only other times I had been there I had fallowed others. I thought it was before the main North Bend exit. I ended not being able to find it and didn't want to miss the group. I knew I was about 15 min or so ahead of them, so I just decided to keep going and would meet up with them at the next spot I knew they would be at, which was a little place called Vantage. I knew they would go the back way so we went the main way which was a little faster. So we get there and waited about 15 minutes. At that point I thought maybe we missed them. So I asked Jessica if she wanted to try to continue on and see if we couldn't find Connell. Now I had only been to Connell 2 other times and that was always fallowing the group. Plus both times they went a different way. The last time I was there was 2 years ago. So I plugged the town into my phones gps and took off. I knew we had to cross the river and go to the right. Passed one town I remembered and the larger town I knew connell was close to. I knew we had to turn off on another freeway but couldn't remember which one. So we turned off and I just hoped and prayed it was the right way. We kept going for awhile and I was getting worried we were lost and would be late getting there. I ended up stopping and told Jessica I had no idea where we were. She said the GPS was saying to just keep going until we it 260 East. well ok. At that point I was ready to just turn around and get something to eat anywhere and go home but decided to keep on going. I finally see the big green sign for 260 East with Connell in nice big letters!! YES we were going to make it to our destination. Fallowed the signs and by golly we got to Connell. We went in a back way and had to find the pizza place thinking we were really late and then going to have to scarf our food down in order to fallow them back. so we get there and I see only one bike outside. We go inside and we were the first ones there!! After talking to the owner and our vtx buddy, I found out I was never lost and was actually going the right way the entire time!! Boy was I relieved. so we had a nice lunch with some good friends. Then we fallowed the small group home. Left at 7:30am and got home at almost 8pm. 500 miles round trip. boy am I tired!! Still tired today.
AND then on the way home the last stop we made at the main meet up site. turns out it is AFTER the main North Bend exit and NOT before like I thought. Oh well, we made it there and had an awesome time. didn't get to any speeds over 100 this time around, but hit around 90 a few times. Jessica even had a blast and was glad we decided to keep on going.
What an adventure.

thank you. It is not easy sitting in the saddle for that long. I think it takes me a couple days after to recover and get my energy back.
