Sunday Mornin' Hope : Freedom

Post by Psalmist on June 25th 2011, 10:00 pm

Ga 5:1
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Ga 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

1Pe 2:16
Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.

Riding a bike out on the open road often is referred to freedom (in my head). T shirts will show a leather and chrome bike with "Freedom" and an eagle painted on it. All great examples of temporary freedom. Free from the stresses of life, job, and family to some extent. One of the best 'cycle-therapies' to reduce stress is to ride.

Last August four friends and I rode from Fort Smith to Sturgis, down to Denver and Amarillo and home. It was a great nine day pass to temporal freedom. Just the guys (aka 'Wild Hogs') but we DID take our cell phones. We wanted to stay married. Of course our phones tethered our hearts to the most important people in our lives, our families. On our trip, we met some of the the strangest and most wonderful people. Would I do it again? Let me check my gas tank. I don't plan on living with regrets of unfulfilled dreams. In the next few weeks I'm heading out for Lake Superior to see my mom for a few days. In spite of battling cancer for three years, I'm not slowing down. If anything, I'm trying to kick it up a step or two. After gallons of chemo, the brain tends to forget names and places. I didn't forget last weeks Sunday Mornin' Hope. I was in Pensacola with my family. We camped out at Fort Pickens state park for $20/night. We snorkled and chased crabs and stingrays. We ate fresh shrimp that would make Red Lobster look like McDonalds.

The world offers freedom, but it only lasts a short time. Often the offering involves destruction of the human body. Smoke this, shoot that, snort this, score that. Devils will lie to you and try to trap you in a bear trap. The trigger will look, smell, taste, feel, etc like 'freedom'.

Joh 8:44
"You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Jesus was speaking to Pharisees here when he exposed their hearts. They were trying to trap Him and He was trying to set them free. Today He is still trying to set people free from sin and death itself. But most will not listen and they choose to believe a lie of selfishness. When we give away everything, then we are truly free. When Jesus gave up His life for us, we then received the gift of eternal life. But it is up to us to take it. Most people won't accept Jesus as Lord and Savior because they are afraid life will be just a bunch of rules. But actually the opposite is true. When I gave Him my life, I became free.

Joh 8:36 -
"So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

Do you really want freedom? Surrender to Jesus. Do you want hope? There's only one who can give you eternal hope. You are only here on this Earth for a vapor of time. What have you got to lose? Eternal freedom. If you want freedom right now while you're reading this, just say a simple prayer and mean it in your heart. Try this:

Dear Jesus, Forgive me of my sins. I believe You died for me and rose again. I confess my sins before you and need your forgiveness. I forgive all who have hurt me and I forgive myself for ALL past mistakes. I receive your forgiveness Jesus and I am now forgiven. Holy Spirit, strengthen me by your power to resist the devil and his traps. I am free and forgiven. I have overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. amen

If you just prayed that simple prayer, drop me a private message and let me know. Remember I'm praing for you. Have a fantastic week. Celebrate freedom and ride carefully.

Dino

In your prayer you said "I forgive all who have hurt me and I forgive myself for ALL past mistakes." Forgiving myself for past mistakes is one of the hardest things for me. Thanks Dino.

Devils bring up the past in hope to strangle your future. If Christ has forgiven you, then you can too. I know, easier said than done. After forgiveness, walk or ride away from that mess.
