help

Post by actionpack on July 9th 2011, 10:17 pm

a good freind of mine give me her old invacare electric wheel chair , it is a pronto m51 sure step , the right motor went out of it the other day , i got the motor on the bench and the 2 screews that hold the cap covering the brake on the motor , cap refuses to come off , there is something else inside holding the cap on , i can't seem to find a break down pic of the motor on google , has any 1 had 1 of these motors a part , the problem is either the electric brake or the brushes hopefully , new motor around 900 bucks feedback

ok , i got the dust cover off , it was suppose to just slide off , but the brush holders were broke and tipped up and pinching agaisnt the cover , then i find out the cover was plastic , not metal , felt like metal and looked like it , now i need to find out how to remove the 2 long bolts that holds the starter houseing , i can't find any bolt heads inside the hear box , and all i see on the brake end of this thing is 2 nuts recessed in the starter howsing with a slot showing on each side , maybe a small punch and some hammer work is how these come off , :smt017 , the armature looks like it has gotten hot , gonna try and clean it up a bit and see if i can get it working , if i can get this housing broke down , affraid affraid

i guess i stared at it long enought , it ended up being a slotted nut on the brush end , i took a small punch and backed them up and off and got it broke down , the armature bearing on the brush end of this motor froze up causeing a whole lot of problems , but i thin i can fix it , bouncb bouncb bouncb

just picked up the new bearing this morning , but did'nt feel like messing with it right then , i was redoing the front wheel on the model chopper i'v been working on , i had the first 1 in the lathe the other day and my tool got caught , what i had left was peices , so now i'm back where i was days ago , tomarrow i hope to start rebuilding the motor , i need to fit the bearing , reattach the brush holders to the plastic dish they were on when befor the hot bearing melted it ,then try and fit the brushings , so they fit the shape of the armature again , if i can get it all done , and back together and have no nuts and bolts left over , i'm good to go , TU

TU Good job Bill, sounds like you will get it on the road again. If you spend a couple of hundred on a good Lawn Mower engine that Wheel Chair would really rock and roll for you. Shocked -------- Coffee
