Long Story

Post by trip on November 3rd 2016, 9:47 pm

Thanks for sharing Len.  I know it must have been hard what you were going through.  I know the fear of not knowing what is going to happen.  Things like this will make you look at life differently.  Praying for you brother.  You got my number if you ever want to talk.

On a different note I just had my yearly PSA test last week.  I always get a little worried just before the test.  Praise GOD it was .04.  6 years out and still cancer free.

Long Story ...

Post by NeonLeon on November 7th 2016, 9:58 am

Ok Tommy ... here goes. It is long and maybe boring ... I figured that people started reading and got bored so I had deleted it.

A year or so ago my wife started telling me I was absent minded ... forgetting things all the time ... not maliciously ... just little things. Then I started getting bad enough that I noticed them myself. I made an appointment with a neurologist in Greensburg, PA. He took a history and ran some memory tests that I breezed through ... got 39 out of 40 correct.

He said I definitely had signs of memory loss but he wanted me to have an MRI and an EEG here in Uniontown. I had those done and was waiting for him to call with the results. And we waited ... and waited ... 2 weeks. Pam called and left messages and he finally called. To my surprise he told me I had suffered a stroke! He did not know when, but the MRI showed it. There  were no side effects from the stroke and it was bigger that a TIA or "mini stroke". Then she asked the question that had me most worried ....  "Does Len have Alzheimer? He said I had early signs of dementia and Alzheimer.

I was pretty much shocked to my core. I had thoughts of getting worse ... to a point that maybe I would not recognize my grandsons or other family members.

I prayed for GOD to take this from me. Take my earthly life but not this way. The internet calls it a slow and brutal death. So the neurologist, that I really did not care for, said he was very busy and gave me a prescription and said "I will see you in January."

Well I didn't know where to turn. My wife and kids kept telling me that the doctor was wrong. They kept testing my memory. My problem was that I didn't know what I didn't know.

Pam made me an appointment with my family doctor. He has been my doctor and friend for a long time and knows my history well. He said that I did have a stroke ... which still shocks me to this day. Then Pam asked "Does Len have Alzheimer? Al smiled and looked me in the eyes and said "Nope!" No signs of it. He said my neurons may be firing a little slower, but that is because I am an aging old fart ... NOT Alzheimer. I am soooo lucky to have my family .... I would not have seen this through. I would have believed the "expert" and would have sat around waiting to get worse.

I am now on 1 low dose aspirin a day ... that's it ... AND I feel GREAT

I am back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD is Great!

GOD is good!

I see things differently now .... don't sweat the little things

I do hope I didn't go on too long, but I have 2 birthdays now ...

your friend

Len

Not remembering things is part of getting more seniority in life...I walk into a room all the time & think...what did I come in here for?...And after I leave the room it comes to me why I was in there...but sometime it is about 4 hours later...tale care
